Stating that high priority was being given by the State government to develop major and minor ports, Home Minister N. Chinarajappa on Sunday said new ports would be established at Tuni, Machilipatnam and Gangavaram in the days to come to accelerate the growth of export and import trade.
Accompanied by Kakinada MP Thota Narasimham, Mr. Rajappa laid the foundation stone for re-carpeting of internal roads in the Kakinada anchorage port with an expected outlay of Rs. 8.6 crore.
Mr. Rajappa said the stretch between the anchorage port and Rajanagaram would be converted into a four-lane road and Rs. 225 crore had been sanctioned for the first phase.
Highlighting the need for renovating the age old anchorage port, he said the dumping yard would be relocated from the port area and the required facilities would be provided for loading and unloading of commodities.
