Global trade enabler DP World operated Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal (NSIGT) has once again reinforced its position as the leading container terminal in India, setting a new benchmark for the industry. NSIGT recently hosted the container vessel with the deepest draft to call at India’s premier container gateway, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), post the dredging project.

The MSC Sindy with a length of 336.7 metre is deployed on the IMED Service and requires a minimum arrival draft of 15.65 metres at berth. The MSC Sindy is a testament to the efforts and commitment by the Port Authority in improving the marine infrastructure at JN Port.

Mr. Jibu K. Itty, CEO, DP World Nhava Sheva said, “It is yet another proud moment for us to host the deepest draft vessel to be berthed at NSIGT post newly dredged channel at JNPT. We would like to take this opportunity to thank MSC for the continued trust they have shown in us and our ability, to service them. We are proud of our consistent 32 plus moves per hour crane productivity, reducing port stay. We hope to continue this success while delivering the world class service to all our customers.

We appreciate the dedicated efforts of the Port Trust towards improving marine infrastructure at the port, which further enables us to handle next gen vessels.”

The berthing of this vessel at NSIGT is a testament to the state-of-the-art facilities available at the container terminal. The terminal hosts several innovations to its credit and is a model for future port development in India which include Automated Gates – powered by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, the futuristic Reefer Monitoring System and remote-operated quay cranes and revolutionary Electrical Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes (E-RTGs).
