NORWEGIAN DELEGATION HOLDS DISCUSSIONS WITH MORMUGAO PORT MANAGEMENT

A high level Norwegian Delegation comprising  of 22 members headed by  Ms Ann Ollestad, H.E. Consul General, Royal Norwegian Consulate, visited the Mormugao Port Trust on Tuesday and held discussions with the Dy. Chairman, Shri G.P. Rai,  and other senior executives of the port administration. The talks were cordial and explored opportunities for business partnership in the shipping sector between the two countries. The delegation was received by the Dy. Chairman Shri G. P. Rai at the MPT Administrative building.

The discussions centered around exploring opportunities  to forge business partnership with the Norwegian enterprises and the Port Authority and Shipping Industry by extending knowledge and expertise in the shipbuilding industry. Interacting with the high level delegation, consisting CEOs of renowned Companies in Norway,   the Dy. Chairman Shri  Rai, extended all support and co-operation from the Mormugao Port in building a progressive working relationship with the Norwegian Government in the Port sector.  The representatives of the Norwegian Companies expressed keen interest in the sectors of dry docks, ship repairs, VTMS, Maritime and Marine Engines, fishing products, and inland waterways in Goa to further develop the shipbuilding industry and port sector in the state.

Being one of the top countries in the world engaged in Shipping and Marine activities, the visit of the Norwegian delegation to Goa attaches much importance considering we have a vibrant shipping presence in this tiny state situated on the west coast of India. The delegation which has ship building and other shipping and Marine related activities on its agenda, has come at the opportune time when the Ministry of Shipping, Transport  and Highways Government of India, is extending full support in the development of port infrastructure  under the Sagarmala project for port led prosperity.

Shri Vipin Menoth, Traffic Manager MPT gave a detailed overview of the Port, the infrastructure, the projects under way and the future developmental projects that are being taken up  to meet the demands of the ever growing shipping trade. The Port Management emphasized on their commitment to focus on exploring the use of alternate source of energy such as solar energy and wave energy in building  a clean energy port.  A few delegates showed their keen interest in setting up ancillary units, to support the dry docks in the port as well as the inland waterways transport. The queries raised by the delegates were answered to their satisfaction of the delegates present.  H.E. the Norwegian Consul General, expressed her deep satisfaction on her visit to the Port and the detailed overview that the Port Management presented to the delegation. She expressed her desire to come back again and follow up on the promises and take the initiative forward.
