The state government intends to build two more seaports to supplement the three already-existing ports at Paradip, Dhamra, and Gopalpur in order to increase its marine infrastructure. In January, the state government intends to sign a technical assistance deal for the development of the two new ports with PSA Singapore, a prominent port group with a global network spanning 45 nations.
The Odisha state government has received an application from a well-known shipbuilding and repair company to establish a shipyard. Either of these two new ports will have a shipyard. The government wants to see more industry near the ports of Gopalpur and Dhamra. It approved Orissa Metallurgical Industry Private Limited’s investment of Rs 6,000 crore for an integrated steel mill in the Bhadrak district, close to Dhamra port. The Utkarsh Odisha Investors’ Summit, which will take place on January 28 and 29, will disclose a number of investment proposals, especially in the chemical and petrochemical industries close to Gopalpur port.
With exports expected to expand by 20% a year, Odisha hopes to boost its port cargo handling capacity to over 500 million tonnes annually by 2030, up from the current capacity of about 290 MTPA. This will make it a vital component in India’s industrial revival. After evaluating the immediate prospects for investments, the government has focused on the two in Balasore and Ganjam, despite having announced 14 non-major port areas in total, according to the sources. Due to land constraints, its previous intention to establish Palur port in Ganjam district had encountered certain obstacles.
