Online marketplaces in Bangladesh may be exempted from VAT challans

Online marketplaces in Bangladesh are expected to receive an exemption from VAT challans or mandatory collection of invoices for value-added tax, for online sales.

This is as per reports, which added the introduction of the same will result in online marketplaces being exempted from the mandatory collection of VAT challans, primarily aimed at attracting increased foreign direct investments (FDIs) in the sector.

Meanwhile, the sector leaders have reportedly welcomed the move by the Government even as they underlined this would help will create an opportunity to reduce harassment while also encouraging businesses to further invest in the sector even as they called upon the Government to withdraw 15 per cent VAT on delivery charges for the sector’s growth. Reports further added, at present, it is mandatory for online marketplaces for responsible for VAT liabilities on every digital sale using their sites notwithstanding if they sell goods and services or not.
