Over 2000 containers stuck at Colombo Port

Around 2300 consignments of essential goods imported into the country are held at the Colombo Port, due to the shortage of dollars to release the containers.

The consignments held in this manner, contain essential commodities such as Rice, Dhal, and Sugar, Nihal Seneviratne, the spokesperson of the Essential Food Commodities Importers & Traders Association told News 1st.

Steps will be taken to release commodities such as Big Onions and Potatoes as soon as possible, he said.

According to Seneviratne, a discussion will be held with officials from the Finance Ministry in this regard.
