Several strategic initiatives taken by the port have enabled it to leap frog ahead. The port has reduced the time lapse between loading of coal rakes thereby improving efficiency at its mechanised coal plants.

In the recent financial year, traffic of 27.12mt had been handled there. A total of 21,665 train rakes were accommodated during the year, an increase of 7.65%.

The port is known as the hub of India’s coastal shipping and has also improved on thermal coal shipping. In the previous year, it has handled record volumes of coastal shipping, while thermal coal shipping volumes stood at 43.97mt, equivalent to growth of 4.02% compared to the previous financial year.  Berth productivity has boosted by 6%, making it the country’s most efficient port.
