Patenga Container Terminal to start operations shortly

The arrival of MAERSK DAVAO, a Singapore flagged vessel bringing import containers from Port Klang, Malaysia, will mark the inauguration of operations at the Patenga Container Terminal.

The container carrier is expected to berth at the terminal on June 10, following which regular berthing of vessels will commence at the terminal. Maersk DAVAO will be bringing 1700 teus to the port, which will be unloaded and the ship will be further loaded with 1000 teus of export containers. At present, 19 jetties located in the three terminals of the Chittagong port are functional — New Mooring Container Terminal, Chittagong Container Terminal and General Cargo Berth.

Patenga Container Terminal will be operated by Red Sea Gateway Terminal, while the remaining terminals are being operated by domestic operators. The terminal has three container jetties and one dolphin oil jetty, accordingly three container ships and one oil tanker can be handled simultaneously at the terminal.
