Various trade bodies have expressed the demand for a riverine port on Bahuda river mouth in Ganjam district of Odisha. About 10 years ago a proposal for this port was set forward, but no progress has happened so far. At that time Paradip Port Authority had expressed interest to develop the riverine port and was also willing to sign an agreement with the state government, but the lack of initiative by the state government did not see any progress in the development of the riverine port, say people familiar with the matter. The port area is largely inhabited by the fishermen community and development of a riverine port will augur well for their business and livelihood.
