Managements of Port of Wilhelmshaven and Port of Mundra have met in Mumbai. Both ports are linked by ME1 service which is operated by Maersk Line and offers weekly call from Mundra to Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
Technology was on the agenda and both sides discussed potential to collaborate in technology and joint promotion for customers using both their ports, said Capt Sandeep Mehta at a function hosted by the chairman Mr Andreas Bullwinkel.
Wilhelmshaven Management also toured Adani Port in Mundra, which is the flagship port of Adani group and agreed on sharing best practices and discussed synergies between the two entities.
Key highlight is that both ports have deep draft of 18 meters which offers an opportunity for deployment of larger ships. This is the trend in Asia Europe trade and this is also expected to be replicated in India – Europe trade as well given double digit growth in this market. These two ports are placed well for the future requirements of the trade.
Mr Ingo Meidinger, Sales Director of Wilhelmshaven, presented details of the FTZ and informed the gathering about acquiring some large volume customers in Reefer and Auto sectors notably VW and Audi, who operate a CKD centre inside the port of Wilhelmshaven.
Mr Bimal Kanal, Director – Maersk Line India responsible for Safmarine in India Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, spoke about the deep relationship with Wilhelmshaven given that ME1 service was the biggest service into the port of Wilhelmshaven and that APMT was invested in the terminal operator Eurogate.
Ms Neelam Choudhary, India Representative of Wilhelmshaven Port had curated a gathering of important stakeholders which included Port of Mundra, Maersk Line, Freight Forwarders, Technology company, Beneficiary Cargo Owners, Trade association and media persons.
This was the second visit of Wilhelmshaven top management to India this year which indicates their commitment to India as a market. A similar event was hosted in Gandhidham earlier this week.
