RAILWAYS ENTERS INTO AGREEMENT WITH PORTS

The Southern Railways has entered into an MoU with Kamaraj Port and Madras Port with an objective of increasing freight on trains. The MoU was signed at a conference organised on the topic ‘Freight on Southern Railway – Uncorking the potential’, as a part of Rail Humsafar Saptaah programme. Rail Humsafar Saptaah is a week-long event being organised across all zones of Indian Railways to highlight its achievement in the last two years from 26 May to 1 June.

Chief Commercial Manager (Freight Marketing) of Southern Railway G V L Sathyakumar signed the MoU on behalf of the Railways with Chairman of Chennai Port Cyril George and Director (Operations) Kamarajar Port Sanjay Kumar in the presence of General Manager of Southern Railway Vashishta Johri. Vashishta Johri said out of 1.2 million cars and 3 lakh commercial vehicles produced by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Chennai, which are exported or shipped, Southern Railway transports only 3 per cent.
