South Korean fabrication giant Samsung Heavy Industries said it has successfully demonstrated its own natural gas liquefaction process at a ceremony at its Geoje shipyard.

Samsung Heavy is the world’s leading fabricator of delivered floating LNG vessels, having built three out of four FLNG orders placed around the world.

Earlier this month the company held a ceremony for the Coral Sul FLNG facility which will be deployed by Eni offshore Mozambique.

The company said it has now demonstrated its Samsung Enhanced Nitrogen Split Exapnsion IV, or Sense IV, natural gas liquefaction system.

Sense IV is developed by Samsung Heavy, and can produce more than two million tonnes of LNG annually and reduce power consumption by up to 14% compared to existing gas expansion liquefaction process, meaning high energy efficiency.

“SHI’s competitiveness for FLNG has been further strengthened thanks to the successful pilot test and demonstration,” said the company.

Young-Gyu Kang, executive vice president of offshore projects development and execution, said: “The successful development and demonstration of Sense IV will further improve product reliability of the full LNG value chain including production, transportation, storage, and supply of natural gas.”

“SHI can leap forward as a total LNG solution provider in our capacity in EPC (engineering, procurement and construction),” he added.
