Sarbananda Sonowal retains the Ports, Shipping & Waterways Ministry

In the new government formed by NDA, Sarbananda Sonowal has retained the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. Shantanu Thakur will also be heading as the Minister of State.

Under the leadership of Sonowal, Northeast region has seen tremendous development in terms of logistics and connectivity using the inland waterways and transhipment via the Bangladesh Ports. Coastal routes have been opened to foreign flagged shipping lines to boost coastal movement of cargo. Crucial reforms in the ports sector, such as the landlord port model were introduced which will further continue to enhance the operational efficiency of ports sector. Development of transhipment ports in Vizhinjam and the progress in the INSTC corridor are some of the most notable developments.
