December 9, 2020: South Central Railway’s Hyderabad division registered 1.6 million tonnes freight loading in the current financial year, surpassing the previous year’s total freight loading, ie 58 per cent more. The division also crossed the mark of previous financial year’s total loading which was only 1.05 million tonnes.
Reduction in the operation of passenger train services, improved track maintenance as well as continuous monitoring has helped to enhance the average speed of freight trains to 50 kmph from the previous year’s average speed of 27 kmph. In addition, the continuous marketing efforts by newly-formed business development units and various freight concessions and incentive schemes introduced for the benefit of freight customers have helped in improving the loading as well as capturing new traffic, said senior railway officer.
