About 20 MoUs will be signed relating to large-scale investments across several sectors, duty-free provisions and facilitation of trade in local currencies. India shares traditional and cultural ties with Bangladesh, while China is its largest trading partner and investor. Experts view Hasina’s China trip as an attempt to balance Dhaka’s strategic relations with both the neighbours. Over the years China has been actively investing in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Bangladesh to strengthen its grip in the Indian Ocean Region.
