Shipping lines expand services to Indian ports

The growth in Indian exports driven by the “Make in India” campaign is attracting more international shipping lines that are hungry for cargo, to Indian ports.

MSC has announced the addition of Asia-South America East Coast service on weekly rotation for moving Indian cargo from Colombo Port. MSC Agencies (India) will be focusing on improving connectivity, frequency and comprehensive coverage for Indian exports which are focusing more on Latin American market. Many of the global importers are now looking for replacement to China and India is strongly placing its exports to capitalise on the opportunity. Latin America currently imports mostly automobile and polyethylene (PE) products from India. Even Hyundai Merchant Marine has expanded its India-Latin America service by adding a call to Kattupalli Port. HMM is targeting on cargo emerging from west India by using the China-India string that connects to JNPA and Mundra ports. The value of Indian exports to Latin America and the Caribbean jumped 19% year on year in fiscal year 2022-23, to some $22.4billion.
