Major shipping lines such as MSC and CMA CGM are said to be enjoying special treatment at terminals in which they either have stake or business arrangements, while other smaller lines suffer from schedule disruptions and making adhoc calls at other ports.

It has been reported that MSC vessels are enjoying preferred treatment at Adani ports such as Ennore and Kattupalli. MSC has stake in Adani Ennore Container Terminal and also in terminals at Tuticorin Port. CMA CGM through CMA Terminals recently won concession rights to modernise and operate the oldest box terminal at Nhava Sheva in a joint venture with Mumbai-based J.M. Baxi Group. It has been reported that MSC vessels are being given out of turn berthing at Mundra Port, while other smaller vessels with scheduled weekly calls are made to wait for longer time causing them to skip calls. Industry insiders have noted that many smaller lines have been diverting to JNPA terminals. This has been confirmed by JNPA as it has seen a rise in adhoc calls requests. The transhipment volumes of JNPA has seen a spike in the past two months. The April-May transhipment volumes soared to 64,040 TEUs from 15,045 TEUs.
