The proposed six-month closure of Shiradi Ghat – a significant hyperlink between the coast and Bengaluru – would trigger large income losses to the state by way of cargo flowing to the New Mangalore Port Belief, the gateway of Karnataka.
New Mangalore Port Belief (NMPT) says export-import merchants, Karnataka state and NMPT itself might lose as much as 50% of the cargo flowing in via Nationwide Freeway-75 to different states. It says exporters and importers will face large losses on account of elevated transportation value, which is able to make their items dearer in worldwide markets denting future orders.
An NMP presentation meant for the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner in January didn’t come via since inspection of Shiradi Ghat was postponed. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had directed the DC to conduct an inspection of the stretch, following which a call on closure can be taken.
The presentation, given to the Kanara Chamber of Commerce, says a closure negatively impacts motion of important commodities.
