Amidst the speculations on the fate of the much talked about Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Barak Valley, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy told newsmen that the Salchapra area under the Borkhola constituency of Cachar district has been zeroed in for setting up of the project.

“We have been working on this for the past nine months and already the Government has asked TATA group and a Japan-based group CBRE to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the MMLP which would be set up across a sprawling 115 bigha (approximately) of land area. We liked and have zeroed in on the Salchapra area here and the site looked to be conducive for meeting the objectives of setting up the MMLP. I have had talks with the Panchayat level leaders and they are convinced about the revolutionary change which is on the cards with the manifestation of the MMLP,” Dr Roy said on the sidelines of detailing the media on the varied aspects of the recently announced union budget.

He was quick to inform that he would meet the Union Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and talk on the issue and allied matters as well.

It may be mentioned that the Union Minister, during his visit to Silchar back in 2020, had assured that like in Jogighopa, a Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) will be set up in Barak Valley soon. Further, terming the recently announced budget as a visionary and futuristic step taken by the Central Government, the Silchar MP elaborated on the plausible aspects including PM Gati Shakti from the budget and how the people of the country will benefit from the budget. Rajdeep Goala, spokesperson of State BJP also underscored the opportunities of the union budget announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman for the people of the country. “The budget announced this year is a comprehensive budget eyeing on the position the country aspires to achieve in 2047. The rise in capital expenditure is a significant point for asset creation,” Goala said.
