The Port Authority of Singapore will be adding more berths to the new port in Tuas industrial estate to accommodate the exceeding number of box ship calls. Three new berths will be opened on the north side of the port by this year end, adding to the existing eight berths already operational.
In the next two decades (by 2040s), Singapore will consolidate all container port operations in Tuas, with annual throughput estimated at 65 million TEUs. Presently, terminal operator PSA and Port Authority of Singapore are focused on adjusting the berthing of shipping lines and feeder operators to minimise berthing delays. In the first half of 2024, container ship calls in Singapore have increased by 13% year-on-year. In January, close to 2,000 boxships arrived in Singapore.
