SOHAR Port and Freezone announced on 15th December the launch of its Port Management Program, aimed at strengthening ties with key government stakeholders, tenants, and international partners. This four-day program marks a significant step in fostering collaboration, deepening engagement, and driving sustainable growth within Oman’s logistics and trade sectors.

The initiative will equip 30 participants with in-depth knowledge of SOHAR’s strategic business model, infrastructure, and operations. It also highlights SOHAR’s pivotal contributions to Oman’s economy and its role in global trade networks. Participants will gain insights into international best practices in port management, as well as the regulatory framework governing port and freezone operations.

The program focuses on three key areas:

  1. Economic and Strategic Insights: Participants will explore SOHAR’s significant role in facilitating 80% of Oman’s import and export activities, contributing to a trade value of USD 43.6 billion—about 38% of Oman’s overall trade exchange.
  2. Regulatory Familiarity: Emphasis will be placed on understanding the legal framework, ensuring compliance, and promoting efficient operational standards.
  3. Site Engagement: Attendees will visit major tenants such as OQ, Hutchison Ports Sohar, Vale Oman, and the National University of Science and Technology (IMCO). These site visits will provide a firsthand understanding of the operations supporting Oman’s key exports—including mineral fuels, plastics, iron and steel, mineral ores, and fertilizers—and imports like machinery, vehicles, and equipment.

SOHAR’s trade relationships with key markets, including the UAE, KSA, India, China, Qatar, and South Korea, underscores its importance as a regional and global trade hub.

Mohammed Al Ismaili, People Manager at SOHAR Port and Freezone, emphasized the program’s significance, stating, “This initiative will forge new bonds, deepen understanding among collaborators, and empower tenants to thrive while enhancing SOHAR’s collective capacity to uphold best practices. It promotes shared value, collaboration, and sustainable growth.”

As a cornerstone of Oman’s logistics infrastructure, SOHAR Port and Freezone positions itself as a knowledge-sharing hub, accelerating port management strategies and reinforcing Oman’s global maritime presence. This initiative aligns with SOHAR’s broader vision to drive economic development through innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in the logistics and port management sector.

By launching this program, SOHAR Port and Freezone reaffirms its commitment to transforming Oman’s logistics landscape and fostering stronger partnerships for future growth, the port said in a release.
