The space shortage at the Burimari Land Port in Bangladesh is not only causing congestion but also delaying loading and unloading of cargo. Thus, restricting Bangladeshi traders from increasing trade volumes with India, Bhutan and Nepal. The Land port’s infrastructure has not been upgraded in line with the rise in trade movement and so trucks are required to wait for 3 to 4 days before their cargo is loaded/unloaded. This is causing congestion within the land port. On a daily basis, about 450-500 trucks enter the port carrying imports from India and Bhutan, while 60-65 trucks move out exports to India. The land port at Lalmonirhat, which is also the second largest land port in the country, has become an important route for movement of trade with India and Bhutan.
