According to cabinet spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, the Sri Lankan government has awarded long-term contracts for importing fuel and crude oil to an energy business located in the United Arab Emirates. According to him, the contract period for diesel is eight months beginning March 1, and the contract period for crude oil is seven months beginning June 1 and ending December 31.

Earlier this month, the cabinet of ministers gave another UAE-based company a long-term contract for the acquisition of 1.8 million barrels of petrol for an eight-month period from February 15 to October 14. The South Asian country has been attempting to import enough fuel and crude oil to support local consumption and economic activities for the past few months.
