The Ministry of Power and Energy revealed the National Hydrogen Roadmap for Sri Lanka. The roadmap jointly prepared by the Petroleum Development Authority of Sri Lanka (PDASL) and the Greenstat Hydrogen India with the assistance of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was presented to the Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera at the Ministry.
Minister of Power and Energy said the government has recognized the need for the green hydrogen program as it offers a unique opportunity to tackle three significant socio-economic challenges: to achieve energy security and energy independence, equality in energy distribution and the opportunity to buy energy at the lowest price, as well as to reduce the environmental impact of fossil fuel use.
He noted that Sri Lanka has the ability to generate renewable energy from solar and wind sources and green hydrogen produced using renewable energy sources, offers a potential solution for significantly contributing to the transition towards a low carbon economy, mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Along with the Offshore Wind roadmap presented last week, Sri Lanka hopes to utilize the immense potential in renewable energy for Green Hydrogen transformation.
