State Minister confident of Port of Colombo generating huge revenue

September 14, 2020: State Minister of Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development Jayantha Samaraweera, made his first port visit recently, after assuming duties.

Following his participation in a special meeting with the Heads of Divisions at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s (SLPA) Chairman’s Office he inspected the East Container Terminal (ECT), the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and the Pilot Station of the Port of Colombo. Port of Colombo, Director (Logistics) Upul Jayatissa briefed the Minister on the ECT.

Addressing the gathering, State Minister He said that he was committed to fulfilling the duties assigned to his Ministry that included development of facilities at the Port of Colombo.

“According to His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s Vision of Prosperity we will also focus on the infrastructure development of the port sector of Sri Lanka in line with the policy implementations. I am confident that the development of the existing facilities at the Port of Colombo would further generate huge revenue,” he said.

State Minister Samaraweera said that he was confident of the potential of the Port of Colombo to take its position towards higher rankings in global maritime ratings and would take steps to expedite the launch of a project to expand the facilities of the ports of Sri Lanka, including the Port of Colombo.

He also said that with potential of the best geographical location of Sri Lanka, he was much pleased to have the opportunity to work with the highly experienced staffs and employees of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Secretary to the State Ministry of Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development Mr. D.D. Marathaarachchi and a number of Ministry officials were present at the occasion.
