CWC Logistics Park is one of the biggest among the 36 container freight stations (CFS) that service Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India’s biggest State-owned container gateway, located near Mumbai.

A consortium led by Teamglobal Logistics Pvt Ltd will start operations in January at a rail linked container freight station (CFS) near Jawaharlal Nehru Port located in Mumbai after winning a 20-year deal from State-owned Central Warehousing Corporation, multiple sources said.

Polaris Logistics Park Pvt Ltd, a company formed by Teamglobal Logistics Pvt Ltd, Isa Logistics Pvt Ltd and Sinnar Agrovet Pvt Ltd, will run the CWC Logistics Park, a 75-acre facility owned by Central Warehousing Corporation, located some 12 kms from Jawaharlal Nehru Port, on an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract, said one of the sources.

A container freight station is a facility licensed by the Customs Department to help decongest a port by shifting containerized cargo and Customs-related activities outside the port area. Due to Customs procedures and space constraints at India’s ports, clearance takes place at such facilities.

CWC Logistics Park is one of the biggest among the 36 container freight stations (CFS) that service Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India’s biggest State-owned container gateway.

The rail siding attached to the facility is an added advantage as it helps move containers directly to J N Port and vice versa.

CWC had sought bids to pick a new O&M contractor to run the facility after the previous contract given to Hind Terminals Pvt Ltd ended earlier this year. The Teamglobal Logistics consortium quoted a royalty of over Rs400 per twenty-foot container (TEU) and a minimum guaranteed throughput of 24,000 TEUs a month to emerge the successful bidder.

“The O&M contract to run the CWC Logistics Park was signed recently,” said an official briefed on the contract.

The deal will help Teamglobal Logistics and Isa Logistics expand their presence in and around J N port.

Teamglobal Logistics and Chheda Group runs Globicon Terminals, a CFS located about 17 kms from J N Port. Separately, Teamglobal Logistics also operates CFSs at Chennai and Hyderabad.

CWC Distriparks, a 31-acre CFS owned by Central Warehousing Corporation, is run by Conex Terminal Pvt Ltd, a company promoted by Isa Logistics and Sinnar Agrovet.

Central Warehousing Corporation, a public sector undertaking attached to the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, runs some 25 container freight stations and inland container depots across the country, some of which have been leased to private firms.
