The service will be through Kochi. As majority of the expatriates are from Malabar, Beypore was chosen as the starting point. According to Maritime Board Chairman NS Pillai, the tender will be invited in early January. Private entrepreneurs and companies with central government participation can participate in the tender. There has been a long-standing demand for ship services as frequent flight ticket hikes has become an issue for expatriates. Tourists will also benefit from this. The chairman of the Maritime Board said that if the Shipping Corporation of India supports it, the service can be started quickly. Sharjah Indian Association President Adv YA Rahim and Malabar Development Council President CE Chakunni had approached the Chief Minister and Union Ministers for the ship service.Last day, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonawal also gave green light when Hibi Eden MP raised the issue in Parliament.
