The Thar Dry Port plans to expand operations

The Thar Dry Port, a unit of Hasti Petro Chemical & Shipping Ltd (HPCSL), which runs two state-of-the-art multi-commodity handling ICDs in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and Sanand, Gujarat plans to expand its operations. As part of its strategy to develop a network of ICDs/CFSs at key locations, it is initially coming up with new facilities in Jaipur and Vadodara. This was highlighted at an event on September 8, 2017 in Mumbai where its corporate film was also unveiled.

The well-attended function had Mr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport & Highways, and Chemicals & Fertilisers, as Chief Guest. Also present, among others, were Mr Ramesh Parekh, Chairman of HPCSL, Mr Ruchir Parekh, MD, HPCSL and Mr Samir Shah of JBS Group/JBS Academy who is also Chairman of FFFAI.

The corporate film elaborated on the journey of The Thar Dry Port, which began when HPCSL diversified into the logistics vertical in 2001 by launching its first ICD in Jodhpur, followed by the one in Sanand in 2009. It was pointed out that the two were the first ICDs in the private sector in Rajasthan and Gujarat, which have grown exponentially since then because of their high-quality, hassle-free ICD/CFS solutions and use of modern equipment and technologies. It was highlighted that the Jodhpur ICD handled over 4,000 TEUs a month in 2016-17 and the ICD at Sanand handles about 8,000 TEUs per month.

The Thar Dry Port functions with high ethical and corporate values and believes in providing solutions that customers want, it was stressed. It optimises transport, logistics and warehousing services as a one-stop, with dedicated and motivated employees and state-of-art equipment and technology, to provide cost-effective and timely services. The company provides efficient port-to-door and door-to-port services through its fleet of over 200 trailers/transport vehicles, and also offers reefer handling facilities and facilities for in-house container repair.

The Sanand ICD has a PFT with 3 rail sidings, offering double-stack train movement to and from ports. Auto rakes are also handled.

There are plans to introduce cold storage facility, vault for precious metals, dedicated area for staging of cars, etc.

Mr Ruchir Parekh, in his address on the occasion, said that the company has acquired land to develop two new ICDs in Jaipur and Vadodara, and, subsequently, plans to develop three more facilities in central, north and north-west India. Work on the Jaipur ICD will start in the next two quarters and will be completed in 18 months. Thereafter, the Vadodara ICD will be developed. Both will provide out-of-the-box solutions to create value for customers, Mr Parekh emphasised.

The company continues to grow rapidly and will double its turnover in the next three years, he said. Hasti has plans to invest over Rs 220 crore in logistics infrastructure development in the coming three years. Mr Parekh also informed that a PFT is being developed at the Jodhpur facility for uninterrupted rail operations.

He also touched upon the importance of relationships in business, and thanked representatives from lines, CHAs, freight forwarders, rail operators, port operators, surveyors, etc. for gracing the occasion. He especially expressed his gratitude to the company’s numerous clients as also The Thar Dry Port team.

Mr Samir Shah praised Mr Ruchir Parekh’s fortitude and resilience and welcomed the proposed setting up of its second facility in Gujarat. He also appreciated the service of The Thar Dry Port and wished it success in its aim to become one of the biggest players in this space.

Mr Mansukh Mandaviya, in his address, stressed on the importance of PPP in developing logistics, transportation and maritime infrastructure in India, in which companies such as The Thar Dry Port can be partners of the government. He highlighted the government initiatives such as multimodal logistics parks, coastal economic zones, Sagarmala, smart industrial port cities, cluster-based development, Make in India, etc., which will help bring down the high logistics cost in the country.

He pointed out that the present government had inherited a National Highways length of 92,000 km, and is targeting developing over 1 lakh km in 5 years. Infrastructure should be developed based on the needs of the future, he said.

He emphasised that the government is industry-friendly and will provide all the requisite support to private players to make India a developed country. “No one can stop it”.
