The Dedicated freight corridor between Dadri and Sanand has become fully operational and the remaining portion from Sanand to Vetarna will be operational by March 2024. This will mark completion of the 95% of the DFC corridor including the east west corridor also.

He further shared that only a small portion of the DFC corridor from Vetarna to Jawaharlal Nehru port was remaining to be completed which was facing certain land acquisition problems in Mumbai. However, the land acquisition has been completed and the work is in progress. The entire corridor is likely to be completed by the end of this year.

Vaishnaw said that after 2014, the work of commissioning the Dedicated Freight Corridor gained momentum and now almost 89% of the work has been completed. The project was designed in 2004 and approved in 2007 and till 2014 the progress was negligible.

“Due to the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the cargo trains are now being run on this corridor while the passenger carrying trains are run on the regular conventional network. As on date, around 300 to 350 freight trains are plying daily over both Western and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridors which has enhanced the logistic efficiency by reduction in transit time by around 50% to 70%.
