Traffic slows down at private ports

In the last quarter of 2021, cargo volumes declined by about 8% in October and November and 13% in December.

It is reported that total volumes handled by minor ports declined by 8% in January 2022, over the previous year. In the last quarter of 2021, cargo volumes declined by about 8% in October and November and 13% in December. This indicated that the demand surge post COVID is now slowing down. On the brighter side, the coastal cargo movement at private ports during January 2022 increased by 20% to 8.87m tons from 7.42m tons during January 2021. However, the private ports handled 40.35 tonnes, a 14% decline in January 2022 from 47.12m tons during January 2021. Mundra and Pipavav handled 60% of the cargo movement in January, followed by ports in Andhra Pradesh that moved 13%, and the Maharashtra State, at 10%.
