On the Western DFC network Indian Railways has successfully completed the first goods train trial run. The test run was conducted Gujarat between the districts of New Gothangam in Surat and New Makarpura in Vadodara. The DFC will improve freight traffic as the electronic interlocking system enables the railways to operate faster and there will be no level crossings across the entire route. The approximate cost of building the Makarpura to Gothangam stretch was Rs3644Cr. Of the 1506 KM of Western DFC, 1279KM have been accomplished and will greatly reduce the current traffic on the busiest routes between Delhi to Mumbai.
