Direct coastal shipping between Chattogram Port and Ranong Port, Thailand, may soon be tested.

In December 2021, Bangladesh and Thailand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a direct shipping route between Chattogram Port in Bangladesh and Ranong Port in Thailand.

The ambassadors of Thailand and Bangladesh talked about areas of common interest during the meeting, including tourism, agrobusiness, coastal shipping, commerce and investment, and people-to-people interactions.

Regular bilateral consultations and the fastest possible completion of outstanding bilateral instruments were stressed by the foreign secretary.

Both anticipated that the BIMSTEC Summit will occur shortly. The activation of the ‘Visa Exemption Agreement’ for official passports issued by Bangladesh was praised by the Foreign Secretary.
