Tripura Food Minister expands truck fleet to boost grain transport

In a boost to the public distribution system, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has invested approximately Rs. 186 crore for procuring 5 trucks for delivery of subsidised food grains across the state.

The Food Department in Tripura used to traditionally engage transport contractors appointed through a tendering process for moving food grains from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to state-run warehouses. The food grains were then supplied to fair price shops for public distribution. However, the food department has been frequently deploying its own trucks to meet the increasing demands, as the contractor-provided fleet proved insufficient.
