V.O.C Port achieves new record in single day cargo handling

To boost coal handling a 240-meter-long link conveyor system, connecting the conveyor of the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station to the port’s coal yard has been operationalised.

V.O. Chidambaranar port set a new record by handling 2,04,650 tonnes of cargo on February 23 by surpassing the previous record of 2,04,512 tonnes handled on October 30, 2024. Currently, two harbour mobile cranes having the capacity of handling 120 tonnes are positioned at North Cargo Berth-2 and three harbour mobile cranes at berths 1 to 5 clocking an daily output of 45,000 tonnes.

To boost coal handling a 240-meter-long link conveyor system, connecting the conveyor of the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station to the port’s coal yard has been operationalised, and this is expected to increase the coal handling capacity by 7 lakh tonnes annually.

Additionally, the port has also announced concessions on wharfage for handling bulk cargo at North cargo berth 2 and coal jetty 2. Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE and Chairperson of V.O.C. Port stated that the fully mechanised shore unloaders, capable of handling 7 million tonnes annually, will be commissioned by JSW Infrastructure Ltd by 2026.
