V. O. Chidambaranar Port on record-breaking spree

V. O. Chidambaranar Port Trust (VOC Port) created a new record by handling 1,77,639 tonnes of cargo in a single day on November 16, 2017, surpassing the previous single day record of 1,65,189 tonnes on November 11. The major cargoes that contributed to this achievement were limestone, industrial coal, thermal coal, wheat, copper concentrate, granite, general cargoes and containerised cargoes.

The Port also created a new record for the highest volume of cargo handled in a single day thus far at Berth 9, which was 50,118 tonnes of limestone from the vessel MV Johanna Oldendorff on November 16, 2017, surpassing the previous record of 41,376 tonnes of coal handled from the vessel MV Shi Dai II on November 13, 2014.

Yet another record achieved was for handling limestone — 50,118 tonnes from the vessel MV Johanna Oldendorff on November 16, surpassing the previous figure of 33,830 tonnes from the vessel MV Prabhu Lal on September 4, 2017. Seaport Shipping Pvt. Ltd was the vessel agent and Seaport Logistics Pvt. Ltd the stevedoring agent.

Mr I. Jeyakumar, IRTS, Chairman of VOC Port, thanked all the stakeholders, officers and employees of the Port for their contribution to these records. He also emphasised that the Port is continuously striving to improve its performance and productivity in order to attract more volumes.
