Vinit Kumar appointed new Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust

Mr Vinit Kumar, an I.R.S.E.E. officer of the 1993 batch, took over charge as Chairman, Kolkata Port Trust on Monday, October 9, 2017.

Before joining as Chairman, Kolkata Port Trust, Mr Kumar was Chief Electrical Engineer in Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd and was looking after the World Bank-funded MUTP project. He held administrative post of Secretary, Central Railway and gained multi-dimensional experience in general administration. Mr Kumar worked in Central Railway in Mumbai suburban system, one of the densest suburban systems in the world, in maintenance and operations of rolling stock and traction installations. He also worked in Pune and Nagpur with independent charge of traction assets and locomotive workshop. He has wide experience in operation, maintenance, infrastructure development and general administration.

He is a BE in Electrical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering and obtained PGDBA in marketing from Symbiosis Institute, Pune. He has also attended training programmes on management in ICLIF, Malaysia and INSEAD, Singapore.

Mr Kumar has travelled to the UK, Sweden, Germany, etc. for study of systems being followed there for operations, maintenance and infrastructure development.

Immediately after taking charge at Kolkata Port Trust, Mr Kumar held a meeting with the Deputy Chairman and Heads of Departments of Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex at Kolkata Port Trust Headquarters. He welcomed all the employees of the Port Trust to accept the challenges and opportunities of the port and shipping world and to share all developmental initiatives and efforts of Kolkata Port.
