“VOCPA is working with IIT Madras for implementing machine learning based predictive analytics in port operations which would provide real-time predictive information based on Artificial Intelligence models. The port is in the process of procuring drones for security patrol, environmental monitoring and carrying out search and rescue operations.”

VOCPA is poised to become the first smart port of India having implemented smart enterprise level business software (ERP). The software is cloud enabled and the exchange with the employees and stakeholders is through digital means. The port operating systems, terminal operating systems, e-office, e-procurement, e-payment system and GIS are being extensively used. Indigenous VTS and AI and ML based solutions have been developed with assistance from IIT-M for increasing business efficiencies and automation.

In a bid to enhance the efficiency of port operations and improve the customer experience, VOCPA has initiated a number of IT initiatives like Enterprise Resource Planning for managing the port’s core business processes, GIS for monitoring port lands and special planning, RFID systems for managing the entry permits, VTS to track the vessel traffic, and e-Office and e-DMS for paperless office. The VOCPA is India’s first major port to migrate the entire IT infrastructure to cloud based storage. The port has a Data Centre and Data Recovery Centre.

Training the employees in emerging technologies is essential to ensure that seaports stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive in the ever-changing landscape of the maritime industry. Based on the annual training calendar of the port, periodical collaborative training on automation, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and logistics trends are carried out.
