VOC Port signs concession agreement for developing shallow draught berth to handle construction materials

V. O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC Port), Tuticorin has signed a Concession Agreement for developing a shallow draught berth through the PPP mode for handling construction materials.

The agreement was inked by Mr I. Jeyakumar, IRTS, Chairman, VOC Port and Mr S. Jagatheesan, Director of VJR Port Terminals Pvt. Ltd, in the presence of Mr Suresh S. P. Patil, Chief Engineer, VOC Port and Mr D. Gnanaraj of VJR Port Terminals.

The shallow draught berth will be developed at a cost of Rs 65.37 crore by Indian Port Terminal Pvt. Ltd, Tuticorin, which has offered a revenue share of 36.01 per cent to VOC Port. Indian Port Terminal had formed a SPV in the name of VJR Port Terminals to construct and operate the berth. The construction will commence within 3 months from the date of signing of the Concession Agreement and commercial operations will commence in 18 months.

The designed capacity of the berth will be 2 MTPA. It will be of 260 m length and 30 m width, with storage space of 2.5 hectares provided by the port. The berth would be capable of handling 25,000 DWT ships with a draught of 10.3 metres.
