Handling of post-Panamax vessels carrying container cargo at Visakhapatnam Port is now possible with simulation studies conducted in Singapore evoking encouraging results.
Post-Panamax is a category used to denote large ships that cannot fit in the original canal locks of the Panama Canal. Visakhapatnam Port Trust Deputy Chairman P.L. Haranadh, who led a three-member team comprising Chief Engineer A.K. Mehra and Deputy Conservator Pradeep Mohanty, told.
The tests were conducted in virtual mode at FORCE Technology Maritime Simulation Services Pte Ltd. to confirm if VPT could handle bigger container vessels at the Outer Harbour and baby cape/cape vessels at the Inner Harbour. The new breakthrough would be executed after training of pilots.
