According to Kerala Water Metro Ltd (KWML) authorities, the service on Vyttila-Kakkanad route will begin at 7am on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the services via online on Tuesday. The inaugural function of the Rs 1,136.83 crore Water Metro project would be live-streamed at High Court Water Metro terminal at 11am on Tuesday.

The Water Metro boats will start sailing with eight electric-hybrid boats manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL).

KWML authorities have informed that by availing the service, people could reach Vypeen from HC Water Metro terminal in less than 20 minutes. The estimated travel time from Vyttila Water Metro terminal to Kakkanad terminal is around 25 minutes.

Initially, Water Metro service will start at 7am and will continue till 8pm. During peak hours, the boats will operate in the HC-Vypeen route every 15 minutes. The time interval between the boats would be revised later after evaluating the number of passengers in the initial days, said KWML authorities.

In total, 15 routes connecting 38 terminals across 10 island communities in Kochi have been identified and services will be slowly extended to all these destinations.

When the project is completed 38 terminals on 10 islands will be connected. The boats used for the service have already gained international attention.
