According to MP of Assam, Dr Rajdeep Roy, development on the much-anticipated Multi Modal Logistics Park will begin within six months of the site being finalised. He examined the land for the proposed mega project at Salchapra near Silchar town recently. He also went to Sripur and Ghagrapar, two more potential sites to understand their feasibility for setting up a MMLP. These three sites were chosen by the state government for the logistics park, which requires at least 200 acres of land. Raw materials would also be stored in a cold storage facility that will be developed along with the logistics park, according to Roy. Agri exports in the region desperately need a cold storage facility where farmers can store their produce till they get a suitable price to sell in the market. The shelf life of the products will also be increased in the cold storage facility increasing profits to the farmers.
