World’s largest car carrier docks at Mumbai Port

Mumbai Port Trust welcomed the world’s largest car carrier, M.V. Höegh Tracer, which docked on February 22, 2017 at the Port’s swanky OCT berth. The Höegh Tracer is 200 metres long and 36 metres wide and is capable of carrying 8,500 vehicles on her 14 decks having space of 71,400 square metres equivalent to 10 football fields, highlighted a release.

About 6,000 cars will be exported on this mammoth ship. The OCT facility, which is 700 metres long and 58 metres wide with current draught of 10 metres and large storage area in the immediate backyard, has been attracting the best of car manufacturers like Volkswagen, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, General Motors, as also the biggest of the shipping lines such as Höegh Autoliners, NYK, Eukor, MOL, etc. This facility has enabled phenomenal increase in vehicle handling at MbPT, with 1.70 lakh units handled up to January 2017 in this financial year as against 1.40 lakh in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 21 per cent.
