This week, the world’s largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC); M/V Höegh Tracer, makes her maiden calls to India. With a capacity to carry 8 500 car units, Höegh Tracer, and her five sister vessels, are the world’s largest PCTCs by capacity.
This is the first time that Höegh Tracer, or any of its sister vessels in the New Horizon series, calls an Indian port. During this voyage she will call Pipavav, Mumbai and Ennore to load cars as well as high and heavy and breakbulk units.

With added ramp strength and larger dimensions of the door opening, we can also offer our high and heavy and breakbulk customers more flexibility with these new vessels.”
In a ceremony on-board M.V. Hoegh Tracer at OCT berth , Mumbai Port Trust , Mr Karolath Gopinath, Managing Director Höegh Autoliners India and Mr. Mukesh Oza ( Group President and CEO – Samsara Group) felicitated Capt Wu Yi Min , Master of MV Hoegh Tracer , Mr Rajeev Tandon (Chief Commissioner , Mumbai Customs ) & Mr B. Bhattacharya ( Principal Commissioner – General , Mumbai Customs) and Capt S.K. Kohli ( Deputy Conservator ) , Mr A.K. Bose ( Traffic Manager ) Mumbai Port Trust.
While addressing the eminent gathering of Senior Custom, Port ,Terminal officials and key representatives from Automobile Manufacturers , Trade & Hoegh Autoliners India , Mr Mukesh Oza thanked each one for the whole hearted support and contribution to make this historical moment possible today.
Höegh Tracer and her sister vessels are built to be both “smarter” and “greener” than traditional car carriers. Geared with the latest information technology the voyage can be planned and executed at optimal safety and efficiency, minimising the vessels’ impact on the environment. A new vessel design is also implemented to make the New Horizon vessels more efficient and flexible.
Höegh Autoliners’ ambition is to be a preferred carrier for the automotive industry and other RoRo segments globally. In India, Höegh Autoliners already has a strong foothold and the Company wish to continue strengthening its services in and out of the country. Höegh Autoliners operates about 50 vessels across the globe in 12 Trade lanes and makes about 3000 port calls annually.
