ZIM overtakes Yang Ming and CMA CGM in tonnage ranking

ZIM has been following the strategy of taking more ships on long-term charter basis, which has enabled it to overtake Yang Ming in ranking, occupying the 9th spot, as Yang Ming dropped to the 10th in liner ranking.

In addition to MSC, ZIM is also emerging to be the fastest growing shipping line in terms of tonnage addition. MSC has now crossed 6 million teus in tonnage capacity, both by ordering new builds and acquiring second hand tonnage. Its latest acquisitions include the 16,616 TEU MSC Juliette and two pre-owned vessels – MSC Unity VI and the MSC Bay IV.   

ZIM has been following the strategy of taking more ships on long-term charter basis, which has enabled it to overtake Yang Ming in ranking, occupying the 9th spot, as Yang Ming dropped to the 10th in liner ranking. ZIM’s fleet has grown nearly 18% from last year, to 728,011 TEU.
